The Double Reward for the People of the Book Who Embrace Islam

Questioner: The contemporary People of the Book — can one of them have a doubled reward, two rewards?

Yes, if he embraces Islam (audio unclear) — not a secularist, but a follower of a scripture — he has two rewards: the reward of his faith, and the reward of his faith in Muhammad ﷺ. This does not entail that he is better than one who believed in Muhammad ﷺ, because this is a reward of quantity, not a reward of quality — and the reward of quality is greater and more abundant in recompense than the reward of quantity.

This is like his statement ﷺ, when he said, "None of you should pray 'Asr except at Banu Qurayzah" — some of them caught [the time] and prayed on the way, and some did not pray. (audio unclear) What did the Prophet ﷺ say? To the one who repeated the prayer he said, "You have the reward twice," and to the one who did not he said, "You have hit upon the Sunnah." That one's [reward] is greater: he hit upon quality, while the other, who repeated the prayer, hit upon quantity. So the former has more reward and more recompense. Similarly, a man who prays eleven rak'ahs at night in Ramadan, lengthening their standing, lengthening their bowing, lengthening the prostration, doing as the Prophet ﷺ did, has more reward and recompense than one who prays twenty rak'ahs, because he hit upon quality. This is the guidance of the Prophet ﷺ, about which 'A'ishah said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not exceed eleven rak'ahs, whether in Ramadan or at other times." This one hit upon quality, and the other hit upon quantity, and the one who hits upon quality is greater than the one who hits upon quantity. Likewise one who prays a voluntary prayer in the Sacred Mosque — on the view that voluntary prayers are multiplied [there] — the one who prays in his house has more reward, even on the view that [prayer there] is multiplied to a hundred thousand prayers, because the one who prayed in his house hit upon quality, while this one hit upon quantity. And there are other parallels to this.

In any case, if a man from the People of the Book embraces Islam, then yes, he has two rewards: the reward of his faith in Jesus — or, if he was a believer in Moses, the reward of his faith in Moses — and he has the reward of faith in Muhammad ﷺ.
