The Midday Nap (Qaylulah), and Praying the Sunnah of Maghrib in the Mosque
Questioner: Yes? The midday nap (qaylulah) at (audio unclear) — its evidence? Is it recommended?
(audio unclear) its evidence is not a hadith; it is among the permissible matters here — customs. It is before Dhuhr; that it be before Dhuhr.
Questioner: Yes? [On] Friday?
The same — after the prayer. The Companions, may Allah be pleased with them, on Friday, when they used to go early to the mosques and set out early, would not take their midday nap or eat their midday meal until after the Jumu'ah, because they used to hasten and hurry to the prayer.
Questioner: Maghrib?
Yes. It is narrated in the Musnad — in the Musnad — that the Prophet ﷺ said, "This is the prayer of the houses," meaning the two rak'ahs after Maghrib. And it is established from him ﷺ that he prayed them in the mosque. This is in the Musnad from the hadith of Hudhayfah; he said: "I came to the Prophet ﷺ seeking him for a need. He prayed Maghrib, then stood praying, and he did not stop praying until the time of 'Isha' came in; then he prayed 'Isha', then went out, and I followed him" — to the end of the hadith.
This contains more than one benefit. The first benefit: that the Prophet prayed the sunnah (ratibah) of Maghrib in the mosque, and this is evidence that this is permissible. The second benefit: that the Prophet ﷺ spent [the time] between the two night prayers (al-'isha'ayn) in worship, and this is recommended to do sometimes — this is recommended to do sometimes. It has been said concerning the statement of Allah, majestic and exalted is He, "Their sides forsake their beds; they call upon their Lord in fear and hope, and they spend out of what We have provided them" — Anas ibn Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, and others said: it is about spending [the time] between the two night prayers in worship.
