The Criterion for Forbidden "Changing the Creation of Allah" ضابط تغيير خلق الله
Questioner: May Allah be good to you, O Shaykh: the criterion for the forbidden change — changing the creation [of Allah] — what is the criterion?

As for the brother's question — changing the creation of Allah, Majestic and Exalted: what is the criterion for changing the creation of Allah, Majestic and Exalted?
Yes, this is one of the disputed issues: what is the criterion for changing the creation of Allah? One group of scholars say: changing the creation of Allah is whatever the evidence has shown to be forbidden. This, of course, is considered a precise criterion, because no one can dispute you on it. A group of scholars have said this regarding the meaning of changing the creation of Allah, Majestic and Exalted.
Another group of scholars say: you do not change anything of your body; you leave everything as it is. So if you had a sixth finger, you would not remove it; if you removed it, this would be changing the creation of Allah. This is questionable, and there is no evidence for it.
And another group of scholars say: excess hair, even if it causes harm, you do not remove, because this is changing the creation of Allah; and a person does not undergo cosmetic operations, because this is changing the creation of Allah. This too, it may be said, is questionable.
The best that is said is that the meaning of changing the creation of Allah is whatever a text has come forbidding — such as the woman who tattoos: tattooing is changing the creation of Allah; the woman who plucks [the eyebrows] is changing the creation of Allah; the woman who files [the teeth] is changing the creation of Allah. That is, whatever a prohibition has come regarding is changing the creation of Allah, Majestic and Exalted.

السائل: أحسن الله إليك، يا شيخ ضابط تغيير المنهي عنه: تغيير الخلق، ما هو الضابط؟
[سُئل هذا مع سؤال عن مسجد قباء، وتجد ذلك الحوار في التفاضل بين المساجد.]
أما ما يتعلق بسؤال الأخ، وهو تغيير خلق الله جل وعلا ما هو الضابط في تغيير خلق الله جل وعلا؟
فهذه نعم من مسائل الخلاف، ما هو ضابط تغيير خلق الله؟ طبقة من العلماء يقولون: إن التغيير تغيير خلق الله هو ما دل عليه الدليل على أنه حرام، وهذا طبعًا يعتبر ضابطًا دقيقًا؛ لأنه لا يمكن أن ينازعك شخص فيه، وهذا قاله طائفة من العلماء في معنى تغيير خلق الله جل وعلا.
وطائفة من العلماء يقولون: إنك لا تغير شيئًا من بدنك. تبقي كل شيء على ما هو عليه، فلو زاد عندك أصبع سادس لا تزيله؛ إذا أزلته فهذا من تغيير خلق الله. وهذا فيه نظر، ولا دليل على هذا.
وطائفة من العلماء يقولون: إن زيادة الشعر، ولو كان مؤذيًا لا تزيله؛ لأن هذا من تغيير خلق الله، والإنسان لا يجري عمليات تجميلية لأن هذا من تغيير خلق الله، وهذا أيضًا قد يقال فيه نظر.
وأحسن ما يقال بأن معنى تغيير خلق الله: هو ما ورد النص بمنعه، كالواشمة، من تغيير خلق الله الوشم، والنامصة من تغيير خلق الله، والواشرة من تغيير خلق الله، يعني ما ورد النهي عنه، هو من تغيير خلق الله جل وعلا.
