The Ruling on Treated Wastewater: Purity Versus Permissibility of Use
Questioner: What is the ruling on treated wastewater — once it has been processed and purified, with no trace of the impurity's colour or smell remaining?
If this water has been treated and purified, with no trace of impurity remaining in it, then it is pure, so long as no impurity remains. As for the ruling on its actual use, that is a separate matter from the question of its purity, and it is referred back to what physicians determine regarding whether it poses harm or not. According to what physicians establish: if they determine there is no harm, there is no objection to using it; but if they establish that harm exists, then this water should be avoided for eating or for internal consumption, though it may still be used in other respects, based on the general legal principle: "There is to be no harm nor reciprocating harm."
